It always seems like pets are little charms; they are sweet and adoring & playing with them is a relaxing exercise. Yes! Pets can be charming members of your family; they can be a good friend to you and your children.

However, some health Risks are there that are associated with Owning a pet. You should be aware of them.

Pet allergies

Pet allergies are common. Every year, about 3 million people in the United States have them. Animals have proteins in their skin, dander, saliva (spit), and urine (pee) that can make people sneeze, itch, get watery eyes, or even have asthma attacks.

Pet dander not only causes allergies, but it can also make the Air in your home dirty. Bad air quality can make allergies and asthma worse, cause breathing problems, and might lead to serious health issues over time.

The Health Bond

Cost

Whether you have a kitten or buy an expensive dog, the cost of getting a pet is small compared to the cost of taking care of it for its whole life.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has figured out how much money you need to spend each year to keep your pet healthy. It can be as much as $875 for a big dog and as low as $35 for a fish.

As we know:

Everything has its price.

Every pet has its expenses, such as separate food, shampoo, toothpaste, medicines, and many more. Also, you have to get them to the regular vet check-up. These expenses are also added to your budget.

Cat Scratch Fever

Cat Owners Beware…

Cat owners need to be extra careful when playing with or handling their pets.

“Cat scratch fever, also called cat scratch disease, is an infection caused by bacteria.”

It usually happens after a cat bites a person. But since cats can have bacteria on their body, you can get the disease even without a bite. So there is a need to be careful.

Symptoms

It may include:

  • Feeling sick to your stomach
  • Fever
  • Feeling very tired
  • Nausea
  • Throwing up

Risk for your children

Different rules make pet food and people’s food. While adults think dog food looks yucky, small children might think it is yummy.

Pet food can contain Salmonella, a germ that can make you very sick, and you sometimes need to go to the hospital. Kids have the habit of tasting everything without any reason. Kids may get Salmonella from pet food which the pet is eating. And kids get affected more easily than adults.

Sometimes, any pet’s fur remains on the floor, and your kid may have it. It causes a serious problem.

So, there is a risk of owning a pet, especially with kids.

However, if you do have a pet, then you have to take extra precautions to keep you and your family healthy and fit. For example, you have to be more diligent in cleaning and using an Air purifier in your home to get quality Air. You have to give regular baths to your pet to keep your environment clean. If you have any allergies, then discuss it with your doctors for the options.
